New VenturePosted by Admin, Feb 7, 2019
After over 12 months of planning we’re excited to announce the first details of our new venture.
As part of our planned progression we have purchased a property in close proximity, and working with local building firm Ocean Construction will be converting it into a sandwich bar. A lot of effort and planning has gone into the project so far and we’re happy to finally be able to say we're starting work at the beginning of March.
The purpose of the project is to provide work experience placements for adults with Learning Disabilities. It is hoped this will help to encourage and enable a sense of community integration; teach both life skills and transferable skills whilst also providing a “meaningful activity”.
Being engaged in “meaningful activities” allows people to meet some of their most basic needs, such as socialization, a sense of accomplishment, a sense of purpose, as well as their need for cognitive and physical stimulation. Such activities also create a sense of collaboration when participating with others.
The charity has always been forward thinking and 24 years ago opened the first residential care village in the area which continues today to provide a high standard of care to the residents who live there. We again believe that this new venture is the first of its kind in the local area and hope it will be supported by the local community.
